On Sundays the main roads in some of the major shopping districts are closed to allow the pedestrians to roam free—a wonderfully refreshing change from the US approach to cars. In Ginza, at least, this is known as ‘Hokosha Tengoku’, or ‘Pedestrian Heaven’.
